Mark Leuchtenberger, CEO of Targanta Therapeutics, reported that the company has filed an application with the EMA in Europe to seek approval of its experimental antibiotic oritavancin as a treatment for complicated skin and soft-tissue infections caused by certain bacteria, such as deadly MRSA. Targanta has also asked the FDA to approve its drug in the U.S. and is hoping that the agency acts on its application by December 2008. (Targanta is on Nasdaq: TARG.)
Mark is also the new chairman of the Mass Biotech Council, replacing Mike Webb, another CEO Roundtable member.
