Nicholas (Nick) Barker, CEO of The GI Company, recently presented the results of its Phase II clinical study for its Intestinal Trefoil Factor drug to the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). This new drug leads to a statistically significant reduction in the occurrence of chemotherapy-induced oral muscositis in the patient population. Muscositis is a common and serious side effect of chemotherapy for colorectal (and other) cancer often limiting the duration of chemotherapy. The Study abstract was published by ASCO on May 15 (ID: 9514/2006-ITF-009). Nick says, "The GI Company's lead clinical compound, rhITF, is now well positioned to find a transaction partner to take this important new oral mucositis therapeutic into Phase III clinical development and expedite its commercialization." The members of Nick's CEO Roundtable group can attest to the incredible perseverance and personal integrity that Nick displayed when against all odds he completed the Phase II trial. He did this while suffering through substantial personal stress and cost. Sometimes the good guys win! Nick, you have our most sincere congratulations!
